Educating to Make a Difference

Educational Requirements

Jewish Senior Services ensures all employees meet state-mandated educational requirements and then some! Our two In-House Educators offer over 50 face-to-face in-services monthly.

In addition, there is a paper in-service for clinical staff if they prefer, and over the past year, we have implemented training on our new web-based system, Upstairs Solutions. The system can be accessed on any computer. Our Education Classroom is equipped with computers for completing required training. As educators, we strive to meet the demanding educational needs of our staff as we continually introduce new topics and keep staff‘on the pulse for geriatric care.

PersonFirst® is a training course designed by Action Pact consultants highlighting a set of principles and practices that guide staff and families as they learn more about Resident-centered care. The course explains and demonstrates the person-centered philosophy and how it drives daily life in a household. Participants discuss basic human needs and common strengths of people living with dementia, and they learn new behaviors and interaction skills. They also learn how to communicate in a Learning Circle and join colleagues, families, and Residents in a Community Circle. The course is held twice a month and is combined with Dementia Education for all new employees.
