Giving Back to the Community
is a Way of Life
At Jewish Senior Services, giving back to the community is not just a cliché, but a way of life for over 300 men and women who serve as volunteers. Our devoted volunteers have given more than a million hours of their time to touch the lives of the elderly in our home.
Volunteers contribute in a variety of ways. You can see them leading current events discussion groups, applying their computer skills in offices, transporting residents to the Synagogue, and taking patients to physical therapy sessions. Volunteers greet you at the reception desks and escort you on tours of the facility. During one-to-one visits, volunteers write letters, videotape autobiographies and read poetry, providing both social and intellectual stimulation for our residents.
If you want to know you are making a positive difference in someone’s life, being a volunteer can give you the satisfaction you seek. Many students enhance their academic studies, gain insight into career plans through exposure to geriatric practice in a medical model, and enrich their community by becoming volunteers. Jewish Senior Service’s Coordinator of Volunteer Services matches the individual interests of each volunteer to the varied opportunities so there is something for everyone.
Volunteers’ suggestions for new activities are always welcome. Volunteers’ hours of involvement are individually designed to accommodate your busy schedule.
